The Members

Daryl Shaun Price (guitar/bass/vocals) started in music at a very young age.  He was in choirs all through junior high and high school and performed in several variety groups and in several musicals.  His musical tastes are extremely eclectic as he can spend days listening to Celtic folk, then be in a classic country phase, and then nothing but hard rock.  He learned to chord on the piano in high school and began performing in talent shows.  Originally emulating piano pop stars Elton John and Billy Joel, his current performing style is influenced by several alternative to bluesy rock groups such as: Blues Traveller, Crash Test Dummies, Dave Matthews, Five for Fighting and Creed.  He has written 8 of the bands original songs:

Arissa Bonita
En Los Ojos de Miguel

I’ll Give You my Everything

Your Smile Never Faded Away

Kyline Stephens (Vocals/Keyboard)  has a diverse background in the fine arts. She has been singing since the young age of five-years-old and has always had a unique gift for music. She began playing the piano at the age of five as well, and developed that knack quickly.  She is currently attending middle school and is part of her school choir program. By the age of 13, Kyline has already been in national commercials for Subway, Target, and Disney.  She has also had supporting roles in feature films, and has worked for the William Morris Voice-Over Division. She has been in a music video for the group Duelo as well.  Her favorite singers are Taylor Swift, Celine Dion, and Lea Michelle. Kyline is quickly developing skills as a songwriter, singer, and general musician.  With Generation Gap she is finding her unique voice and developing her own style that separates her from other young musicians. Kyline has written one of the bands original songs:
It's a Miracle (collaborative with Shaun Price)

Don Beste (Bass/Trumpet/Harmonica)was born into a musical family; Don began performing at a very young age.  He began playing trumpet at 11 and performed with a large jazz group at the age of 13.  He continued performing in Jazz bands throughout high school and then attended Utah State University where he received more professional music training.  In 1973 he joined the Air Force, and played in several groups where he was stationed.  During this time he learned to play guitar and bass.  He fell in love with playing bass, having his first performance one week after buying his first bass guitar in East Berlin.  He has performed in the Christian band, Soul to Soul, in Stillwater, OH.  He played with several Jazz and Country groups in Farmington, NM when he moved there in 2001.  In 2008 he moved to the Rio Grande Valley and became one of the founding members of Generation Gap.  As the oldest member of the group, he is one of the inspirations for the name of the band as well.  Major musical influences for Don have been Stevie Wonder, Louis Armstrong, Miles Davis, and Rafael Mendez.

Darrin Rogers (vocals/guitar/bass) is a choir geek who grew up. He sang in high school and college choirs, musical theater and vocal jazz ensembles. He started learning to play the guitar to impress girls; this was apparently successful, as one of them married him. Darrin has a day job as a teacher, and for fun he takes pictures, writes songs and rides bikes. His musical influences are singer-songwriters like Martin Sexton, Simon & Garfunkel and Suzanne Vega; heavier rock like Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins and Jimi Hendrix; classic blues and big band jazz; folk and bluegrass; and quirky, clever artists like They Might Be Giants, Laurie Anderson, Ryan Adams, Lucinda Williams, and Fountains of Wayne. In other words, Darrin is a musical mutt.

Johnny Maldonado (Drums) started in music long ago but was never in a band until long after graduating from high school.  I participated in band all thru JR high and HS and even first year of college.  A pretty good tuba player, I never played drums till one day at a friend’s house as we took a break from some calculus homework and decided to make some noise. Next thing you know, we were halfway through Stone Temple Pilot’s Core album and got shut down by his parents as we started Rape Me by Nirvana.  After that, I didn’t touch the drums for years.
After a long hiatus, my old HS buddies wanted to start a band and asked if I would try it and from then on I was hooked.  For years we tried getting the band going but life always got in the way.  We eventually got together and got our shot at a friend's gig.  After a great response from a large crowd, the band became known as KAOS.  We played a few more gigs, but then life got in the way again. Our band stayed in chaos and eventually broke apart.  The next group I was in was with some other great friends and we called ourselves @438.  Not amazing individual musicians, as a group we were very good.  But life had to go on.
I've always been drawn to alternative rock and consider that my forte.  A basher by style, my musical interests have always been hard rock or alternative rock.  Bands such as Stone Temple Pilots, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Staind, Disturbed, Godsmack, Limp Bizkit, Deftones helped build my style.  My biggest influence in drums, though, would have to be Danny Carey from one of my favorite bands, TOOL.  His ability to be more than just a part of the rhythm section of the band and more of the actual heart of the band's music is impressive, and I’ve found to be more difficult.
Lately I've become more of a technical drummer and have hit so many more styles as a result.  I've played in Spanish rock bands, cover bands, original bands, classic rock bands, and have even recorded in several professional studios. Through these experiences I have become a more complete musician and more competent drummer.  Generation Gap, with its various styles is a great fit for me as I continue to experiment with different styles and techniques.
